Well, tomorrow morning very early my sister and I hop in the car and head to Quebec to see Bruno in concert 4 times in the next 2 weeks! It takes us 2 days to drive there from here. I'll post a report as soon as I get back cuz I won't have internet access while I'm gone.

Oh, lucky you! Write a diary. We'll be waiting. Have a fantastic time!

Why are you driving, not flying? Are the concerts in Montreal or somewhere else?

Wow! That must be nice if one can just hop in a car and drive to see Bruno I'm sure you will have a wonderful time! We're looking forward for your "report" and, possibly, some new photos of Bruno.

LE GROSZORCHESTRE TOUR – 11, 12, 17, 18 AVRIL 2008


We began our pilgrimage on April 8th at 6:00 A.M. Driving up from Nebraska proved to be a journey undertaken in the soggiest of conditions. The hotel we stopped at for the night along the way was very run down and the beds were like trying to sleep on rock slabs, but at least it was inexpensive, unlike the gas to fill the tank.

We arrived in Montreal on April 9th, exhausted from the long trip, hungry and ready to settle in, so we ordered some St. Hubert chicken and ribs and called it a day.

April 10th found us just out and about and doing some shopping. It was our relax day and that’s what we did.

April 11th was first concert day in Terrebonne! As is our custom, we start from our hotel early to beat the traffic and that gives us time to have a nice supper when we arrive at the venue. We’d had a fairly big lunch, so we decided on sandwiches at the Subway just across the street from the venue, and who was in line ahead of us? Dave Watts (bass), Richard Irwin (drums), and Ali Labelle (keyboards)! We’ve come to know Dave and Richard some and they introduced us to Ali. Back at the venue, we met with Maurice Richard (tour manager), Dominique Pelletier (Bruno’s sister), and Claude Rousseau (who runs the technical board for the show). Maurice had arranged for us to get some copies of the DVD of Le Groszorchestre for ourselves and friends back in the States. We really got the chance for once to have a nice chat with Claude. The concert was terrific as always and Bruno was in top form.

April 12th was Chateauguay and our friend Diane picked us up and it was being held in a place unfamiliar to us. We had dinner with her and other friends at Vieux Duluth and then went to the concert. Much to our surprise, when we arrived, Maurice came in search of us and we were told Bruno want to meet with us before the show. He hadn’t had the chance the night before because so many people who know him from the years he lived in Terrebonne had been there. We really hadn’t expected to see him at all, so we were delighted. It was great to see him so relaxed and happy. He’s a very dear, sweet man and we talked about “DRACULA”. One night in its initial performances at the St. Denis in Montreal, the theatre had a power outage which threatened that night’s performance. Sandy and I waited anxiously in the McDonald’s across the street as the hours ticked by. The performers were waiting, too, in their costumes and makeup, wondering if they would have to cancel. They spent their leisure time backstage, singing folk songs by candlelight, as a way to keep vocally ready in case the power came back on. Fortunately, the lights came on about 10 minutes before the absolute breakpoint and the show went on, late but not one of the audience gave up and went home, and we got a great performance. He’s very proud of how the DVD turned out and he has every right to be. The concert was another great one, even if Bruno did have one moment of stumbling over the lyrics to “Hotel California”. I know he gets a little mad at himself when that happens, but hey … he has literally hundreds of thousands of songs bouncing around in his head and it’s bound to happen that, once in a while, one draws a blank. (Ask Simon LeBon of Duran, Duran, who recently had the same thing happen during one of that band’s biggest hits “Hungry Like The Wolf”!) And, hey … he sang “Canto” b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l-l-y!

Then, we had a four day respite before the last two shows. I won’t bore you with the details, but needless to say, we were both anxious to see the next concerts and a little sad that our vacation trip was fast coming to an end.

Victoriaville is a venue that’s a converted movie theatre, so the artists perform where they still have a concession stand that sells popcorn and drinks! It’s a little unusual to say the least. Victoriaville happens to be Maurice’s hometown and he told us how he used to go to the Cine Laurier on Saturday afternoons when he was a youngster. The acoustics were fairly decent, but the audience was a little cooler. Still, I think Bruno won them over in the end. And, Bruno sang “Canto” again, so I was one happily camper. We asked Maurice if it was all right to take a few photos at the end. Others had been snapping away all during the show, but Sandy and I always ask permission. He said, of course, and so … here they are:

She also took a couple of Dave posed with his bass that I’ll send in a separate file. You can use these photos to post online as long as Sandy receives credit for them. The posed photos and the ones from Salaberry de Valleyfield are strictly for your personal enjoyment.

I have very fond memories of Valleyfield, not only because it was alas the final concert, but it was so much fun. Sandy and I got to the venue plenty early and were there in time to catch Dave, Richard, and Ali having a snowball fight in the parking lot! It was a beautiful spring day, but they still have mountainous drifts on the ground in Quebec. Sandy asked if the guys wouldn’t mind coming out after the show for a couple of photos and they happily agreed. They are sooo nice! It was too soon for them to have their doors open, so Sandy and I just explored the town a bit before we came back and went inside. The venue is a supper club, Le Restaurant du Boulevard, so the meal was included with our ticket. They had an incredible buffet. We got to talk to Maurice and ask him if Bruno would be available for a couple of quick photos after the show and he said it would be no problem at all. He joked that it would truly be the ‘GROSZORCHESTRE’ after all that great food! Bruno and the audience were really hitting on all cylinders – people were very responsive and the girls at the table in front took some videos that you can see on UTube. Sandy could have taken photos from her seat, but they’d have been dark, so we waited until afterward. The guys came out while the equipment was being packed up and Sandy got some really wonderful shots of Dave, Richard, and Ali at the foot of the stage. Maurice told us to come around behind in the foyer and Bruno would be out in a few minutes. Well, needless to say, as soon as the late stayers in the dining room heard his voice, they all came out there, too. That was all right with us, because Bruno was so relaxed and happy that it was fun just to see him interact with the other fans. We did manage to get some photos, though. Bruno was very chatty and was in his artistic director mode when he asked Sandy to take a couple of the photos that you will see in a separate e-mail. I asked Bruno to pose in this fabulous throne-like chair and unfortunately, he got out of it before Sandy could take a decent shot, so ours is of him bouncing back to his feet. The boy just cannot sit still for long! Here’s Danielle’s photo, which is much better than ours.



Bruno kept us talking until midnight and we were the last people out the door! Unfortunately, we had to be on the road home 6 hours later, but it was worth it to see our cherished artist so sparkling and happy.

11-го апреля был первым концертным днем в Terrebonne! Как обычно, мы выехали из отеля пораньше, чтобы не застрять, и это дало нам время хорошо поужинать, когда мы приехали на место. У нас был довольно сытный обед, поэтому мы выбрали сэндвичи в Subway прямо напротив зала, и угадайте, кто стоял в очереди перед нами? Дейв Уоттс (контрабас), Ричард Ирвин (барабаны) и Али Лабель (клавишные)! Мы были немного знакомы с Дейвом и Ричардом и они представили нас Али. Вернувшись в концертный зал, мы встретились а Морисом Ришаром (менеджер тура), Доминик Пельтье (сестра Брюно) и Клодом Руссо (он управляет пультом). Морис зарезервировал для нас несколько ДВД Грозоркестра для нас и наших друзей в штатах. У нас был хороший момент поболтать с Клодом. Концерт был замечательным, как всегда, и Брюно был в наилучшей форме.
12-го апреля был Chateauguay и наша подруга Диана заехала за нами, потому что концерт был в месте нам незнакомом. Мы поужинали вместе с ней и другими друзьями в Vieux Duluth и поехали на концерт. К нашему удивлению, Морис подошел, разыскивая нас и сказал, что Брюно хочет встретиться с нами до концерта. У него не было возможности прошлым вечером, потому что пришло очень много людей, кто знал его по тем годам, когда он жил в Terrebonne. Мы в самом деле не ожидали вообще встретиться с ним, поэтому мы были очень рады. Было замечательно видеть его расслабленным и счастливым. Он очень замечательный, милый человек и мы поговорили о "Дракуле". Одним вечером во времена спектаклей в St. Denis в Монреале, в театре были проблемы с электричеством, которые ставили под угрозу представление. Сэнди и я, волнуясь, ждали в МакДональдсе напротив, а время шло. Актеры ждали в костюме и гриме, гадая, не придется ли отменять спектакль. Они проводили время за кулисами, распевая фолк при свечах, чтобы быть вокально готовыми на случай, если дадут электричество. К счастью, свет включился минут за десять до финальной отмены и спектакль состоялся, позднее, но никто из зрителей не сдался и не ушел домой и мы получили великолепное представление. Он очень горд тем, каким получился ДВД и очень заслуженно.
Концерт опять был замечательным, если бы даже Брюно и не запнулся в песне "Отель Калифорния". И знаю, что он немного сердится сам на себя, когда это случается, но... у него в голове буквально кишат сотни тысяч песен и неизбежно так случается, что что-то забывается. (Спросите Simon LeBon из Duran, Duran, у которого недавно случилось подобное на одном из самых больших хитов этой группы “Hungry Like The Wolf”!) ... и он спел “Canto” b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l-l-y!
Затем, у нас было четыре дня до следующих двух последних концертов. Я не буду утомлять вас деталями, надо ли говорить, что мы были и в нетерпении увидеть последующие концерты, и одновременно было грустно, что наше маленькое отпускное путешествие так быстро заканчивалось.

Victoriaville - это концертный зал передаланный из кинотеарта и артисты дают представления там, где все еще есть стенд для продажи попкорна и напитков! Викториавиль - это родной городок Мориса, и он рассказал нам, как он ходил в Cine Laurier (кинотеатр?) по субботам, когда был молодым. Акустика была относительно достойная, но публика немного похолоднее. Но я думаю, что Брюно их покорил в конце концов. И Брюно опять спел “Canto", чему я была очень рада. Мы спросили Мориса, будет ли это нормально сделать несколько фото в конце. Другие напропалую щелкали во время концерта, но Сэнди и я всегда спрашивали разрешения. Он сказал: Конечно, так что вот они: (прим перев. я так и не поняла из переписки, почему фоты отсутствуют)

У меня остались очень приятные воспоминания о Валлейфилде, не только потому что это был последний концерт, но и потому, что там было так весело. Сэнди и я приехали на место довольно рано, как раз, чтобы застать Дэйва, Ричарда и Али играющими в снежки на парковке! Это был чудный весенний день, но у них все еще снежные оползни с гор в Квебеке. Сэнди спросила их, не будут ли они против выйти после концерта для пары фотографий, и они радостно согласились. Они такие милые!
Для них было еще рано открывать двери и Сэнди и я исследовали немного городок, прежде чем мы вернулись и вошли в зал. Это был клуб-ресторан Le Restaurant du Boulevard, и ужин был включен в наши билеты. У них был невероятный шведский стол (прим перев. Оно ж по прежнему так называется? Подходишь и накладываешь себе сам то, что хочешь и сколько хочешь). нам довелось поговорить с Морисом и спросить, не будет ли возможно сделать пару быстрых фот Брюно после концерта и он ответил, что это без проблем. Они шутили, что это и в самом деле будет БОЛЬШОЙ ОРКЕСТР после всей этой отличной еды! Брюно и аудиенция достигли взаимопонимания - люди были отзывчивымии девушки за столиком впереди сделали несколько видео, которые можно посмотреть на Ютубе. Сэнди могла сделать фото со своего места, но они вышли бы темными, поэтому мы ждали конца концерта.

Мужчины вышли, пока убирали оборудование, и Сэнди сделала несколько отличных снимков ДЭйва, Ричарда и Али перед сценой. Морис сказал нам пройти в фойе а Брюно выйдет через несколько минут. Ну, стоит ли говорить, как только все запозднившиеся в ресторане услышали его голос, то они тоже подошли. Мы были не против, потому что Брюно был очень непринужден и счастлив и было занятно просто смотреть, как он общается с другими фанами. Мы ухитрились сделать несколько фото. Брюно был очень разговорчив и в своем режиссерском настроении, когда он попросил Сэнди сделать пару фотографий. Я попросила Брюно попозитровать в величественном троноподобном кресле, к несчастью, он вылез из него прежде чем Сэнди успела щелкнуть приличный снимок, и получилось фото, когда он из него выпрыгивает. Мальчик просто не в состоянии усидеть долго!
Мы разговаривали до полуночи и мы были последними людьми на выход! К несчастью, мы должны были быть в дороге 6-ю часами позже, но оно того стоило, видеть нашего дорогого артиста сияющим и счастливым.

Перечитываю и удивляюсь Брюно каждый раз, неправ тот, кто говорит, что он всегда одинаковый... Эта его непосредственность...
